Gediminas Grinius (born July 25, 1979 in Ukmergė , Lithuania ) is a Lithuanian mountain and ultramarathon runner . Grinius was the overall winner of the Ultra-Trail World Tour in 2016 .

Life

Gediminas Grinius came to running late; he completed his first half marathon in Lithuania at the age of 28.

From 2009 he trained regularly in order to alleviate his post- traumatic stress disorder, which he had drawn in after a deployment in Iraq as a professional soldier in the Lithuanian army , later passion and sporting challenge prevailed. During his stationing in Poland, Grinius turned to mountain running and started for the Polish inov-8 team a . a. at GutsMuths-Rennsteiglauf and Zugspitz Ultratrail 2013 as well as the Laravendo Ultra Trail , the Transgrancanaria and the UTMB - his first mountain run with a distance of over 100 miles. Grinius finished fifth overall at the UTMB and came third on the Ultra-Trail World Tour at the end of the year .

He has been a member of the Vibram trail running team since 2015 and finished second on the Ultra Trail World Tour . In 2016 he achieved overall victory in the Ultra-Trail World Tour due to his extraordinary trail running performance .

Grinius works for the Lithuanian Ministry of Defense as an analyst for the NATO armed forces and lives with his family in Vilnius .
