The microlight certificate is the Austrian license for microlight pilots , which entitles them to drive microlight aircraft. In principle, due to the national regulations for air sports equipment in Europe, it is limited to microlight aircraft registered in Austria in Austrian airspace . Details of the ultralight certificate are regulated in the Civil Aviation Personnel Ordinance 2006 (ZVPL).

Class eligibility

Aerodynamically controlled microlight aircraft
Trike as a weight-controlled microlight aircraft
Gyroplane
Motorized paraglider

According to § 24a ZLPV there is a class rating for the following ultralight aircraft:

education

The tasks of the regulation for training and testing for ultralight aircraft were transferred to the Austrian Aero Club by ordinance of the Federal Ministry of Science and Transport . This is a civil aviation authority of the 1st instance for the administration of the ultralight certificates.

The minimum age as an ultralight pilot is 17 years according to § 3 ZPLV. A trainee pilot is only allowed to fly alone if he has an aviation medical certificate at least for LAPL .

The training is divided into a theoretical and a practical part, each with a subsequent examination. The theoretical training includes:

In the practical test to become a microlight pilot, the trainee pilot has to prove that he has mastered the necessary procedures and maneuvers. The practical training includes

  • Take-offs and landings at airfields
  • Emergency landing exercises
  • Instruction in special flight conditions and emergencies
  • Overland flights with and without a flight instructor
  • for the class rating UL / A and UL / G at least 30 hours, with 10 hours solo flight by the student pilot
  • for the class rating UL / T at least 35 hours, included
    • 150 landings with gyroplanes,
    • 10 flight hours accompanied by a flight instructor,
    • 5 hours of flying solo,
    • 20 landings in solo flight,
  • for the class rating UL / M one
    • Basic authorization for hang gliders and paragliders
    • practical basic training on two-seater, training-compatible motorized paragliders
    • At least 30 take-offs and landings with motorized paragliders

Maintenance and renewal

The class rating for microlight aircraft is valid for two years. Certain conditions must be met for maintenance:

UL / A class rating

  • 25 hours as a pilot on aerodynamically controlled ultralight aircraft, motor gliders or single-engine motor aircraft in the past 24 months , 10 of these hours in the last 12 months
  • If you have done a one-hour training flight with a flight instructor within the last 12 months, the number is reduced to 12 hours
  • 12 take-offs and 12 landings in the period

UL / G class rating

  • During the past 24 months, I worked for 12 hours as a pilot on weight-controlled microlight aircraft
  • 6 hours within the last 12 months
  • 12 take-offs and 12 landings

UL / T class rating

  • During the past 24 months, I worked as a pilot on a gyroplane for 12 hours
  • 6 hours within the last 12 months
  • 12 take-offs and 12 landings
  • One hour training flight with a flight instructor

UL / M class rating

  • During the past 24 months at least 30 take-offs and 30 landings as a pilot with motorized paragliders
  • thereof 10 take-offs and 10 landings within the last 12 months

The flight hours, take-offs and landings are to be recorded in a flight log and certified by an examiner in the flight log. A copy of the test report must be sent to the responsible aviation authority .

Further authorization

In order to be allowed to take passengers with you for the class rating UL / A, UL / G and UL / T, 10 flight hours as the responsible pilot are necessary after acquiring the ultralight certificate . With the UL / M class rating, there are 100 landings with a paramotor after acquiring the corresponding class rating on at least 20 days.

Further authorizations are towing authorization , aerobatic flight authorization, instructor authorization and examiner for ultralight pilots.
