Ulvshale

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ulvshale is a peninsula in the north of the Danish island of Møn . The landscape consists of meadows, heather , beaches, jungle and moor areas. The holiday home colony of Ulvshale Strand consists mostly of wooden houses, many painted in classic red. The next town, Stege , is 6 km away.

The peninsula was washed ashore from the demolition of Møns Klint . The Baltic current washed the flint out of the chalk and deposited it in parallel layers in Ulvshale; finer sand was deposited on it, which forms the beach of Ulvshale. The nearby island of Nyord was created in the same way.

Many of the flints were ground ball around by the wave movements, so-called ball Feuerstein was born. It was an important industrial raw material that was mined until the early 20th century and was used for fine grinding chalk and lime. The forest of Ulvshale is left to its own devices, only a few hiking trails are kept open.

Günter Grass spent his summers in Ulvshale from 1976. From 1991 he had rented his refuge from the forest and nature authorities all year round. Parts of the novel “ The Flounder ” were created here. The so-called Vogterhus is one of the sights of the place today.
