Odysseus 31 ( Japanese 宇宙 伝 説 ユ リ シ ー ズ 31 , uchū densetsu Yurishīzu sātī wan , "space legend Odysseus 31"; French Ulysse 31 , "Odysseus 31") is a Japanese - French co-produced by DiC France , Tokyo Movie Shinsha , FR3 and RTL TVI Animated series from 1981.

The plot of the series is loosely based on Homer's Odyssey , but moves the story to the 31st century, hence the title Odysseus 31. Deviating from the ancient model, Odysseus ' son Telemach is also present at the Odyssey instead of waiting at home for his father . Odysseus 31 was broadcast on Tele 5 as part of the program Bim Bam Bino . While the series disappeared from the television landscape in Germany in December 1992 when Tele 5 ceased broadcasting, it is still broadcast in France today.

action

Odysseus (Japanese ユ リ シ ー ズ Yurishīzu , French Ulysse ) defeated the Cyclops (here a robot creature) and thus angered the gods, so they send him on an odyssey. He flies with his spaceship the Ulyxes (Japanese Odyssey from English) through space in search of his home planet. Odysseus experiences various adventures together with his son Telemach, Temis (Japanese Yumi ) - an extraterrestrial friend of the same age of his son - and the robot Nono. The rest of the crew of his large spaceship Ulyxes is put into a permanent sleep by the curse of the gods, which only ends when they reach Odysseus' homeworld (earth). Temis' brother Nomaios is also affected by the ban.

One of the adventures takes Odysseus to earthly antiquity , where he helps his ancient role model to shoot his bow and thus preserve his wife and his throne.

production

Under the direction of the directors Bernard Deyries , Tadao Nagahama , Kazuo Terada and Seiji Okuda , a total of 26 episodes were created, while Shingo Araki , Philippe Bouchet and Yoshinori Canada stand out for the appearance of the characters, the latter mainly taking over the appearance of the machine structures and flight structures.
