history

The carpentry was founded in Amstetten in 1868 by the carpenter Stefan Hopferwieser, who was born in Kollmitzberg . At the turn of the century, his son Alfred Hopferwieser, who at that time was the city carpenter and had worked for his parents' company for years, largely took over the management of the business. Favored by the advancing industrialization and in particular by the traffic-related opening up of the economic areas through the expansion of the rail network, the carpentry was able to grow strongly in the following years through orders for the construction of bridges. Before the First World War , the company already had 100 employees. A sawmill was attached to the carpentry. This originally worked as a supplier for the carpentry, but over time it was increasingly expanded into a separate division, as wood exports also developed more strongly in relation to the construction industry.

In 1931 Alfred Hopferwieser died and his daughter Mathilde took over the company. In 1937 she married Josef Umdasch from Upper Austria, who started out as an authorized signatory and joined the company as a partner in 1941.

During the war years, the company acquired a large piece of land on the eastern edge of Amstetten. The production facilities built there were almost completely destroyed by bombing in 1945. The entire company had to be rebuilt. When the occupation troops left Austria in 1955, most of the reconstruction was completed. The period of industrial manufacture of wood products began. The foundation stone for the establishment of DOKA was laid with the provision of shuttering panels for the construction of Austrian power plants.

With the rapidly advancing industrial development, increasing prosperity and growing consumer needs, the industrial production of standardized charging devices is also becoming increasingly important.

With the establishment of Umdasch KG in 1961, a new phase in the company's development began.

In 1968 the company's own metal processing was opened. In the 1970s and 1980s, a period of strong expansion at home and abroad followed, both in the area of shopfitting and in the area of formwork technology. The number of employees rose to 2000.

In 1990 Josef Umdasch died at the age of 78. The company was converted into a stock corporation, chaired by his daughter Hilde Umdasch, supported by her brother Alfred Umdasch and Ernst Röck.

The ongoing expansion of the company led to further expansion of production capacities, and a second DOKA plant in St. Martin am Ybbsfelde was built in 1994. In 1999 Hilde Umdasch, Alfred Umdasch and Ernst Röck moved to the supervisory board. From then on, Reinhold Süßenbacher ran the business and the international expansion continued.

In 2018 the company celebrated its 150th birthday.
