The Umeboshi Rock ( Japanese 梅干 岩 Umeboshi-iwa , German ' salt plum rock ' ; Norwegian Sviskenuten ' dried plum hill ' ) is a rocky outcrop on the Crown Prince Olav coast in the East Antarctic Queen Maud Land . It rises 6 km east-northeast of Akebono Rock .
Aerial photographs and measurements of a Japanese Antarctic expedition that lasted from 1957 to 1962 were used to map it. Japanese scientists also used the descriptive naming in 1963, which the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names gave in 1968 in a partial translation into English.
