Una Troy

Una Troy (born May 21, 1910 in Fermoy , County Cork ; died 1993 in Bunmahon , County Waterford ) was an Irish writer.

Life

She was the eldest daughter of John S. Troy and Bridget Agnes Hayes. Una's sisters were Grainne Troy (1913–1970) and Shevaun Troy (1923–1993). Una Troy's schooling also included attending a Catholic girls' school in Dublin . She grew up in Fermoy, where her father was a lawyer. He was transferred to Clonmel in 1922 , but the family lived in Bunmahon that summer. There she met the doctor Joseph C. Walsh (1894–1969), whom she married in 1931. The couple lived in Clonmel until 1969 and had a daughter named Janet. Una Troy moved to Bunmahon in 1969, where she lived until 1993.

In 1936 she began to write under the name Elizabeth Connor. The publication of their first novella Mount Prospect was banned in Ireland. From 1947 to 1955 she published nothing.

From 1955 she published under her name Una Troy. She mainly wrote novels and short stories, some of which appeared in several languages. The novel We are seven , filmed in England in 1958 , was only shown in Ireland in 2001 in the Irish Film Archive .
