Undersea Defense Technology

Undersea Defense Technology (UDT) is an armaments fair and conference for underwater warfare . It took place for the 30th time in 2017. The conference is being organized by the British company Clarion Defense and Security. Their motto is: "UDT brings together professionals from the military, academia and industry to focus on the latest technologies and developments in one of the harshest environments known to man."

Clarion Defense and Security organizes arms fairs for all branches of the Western armies . The company describes itself as a leader in hosting these conferences with high-ranking military and political decision-makers. The company emphasizes the close interlinking of the armaments industry and users in the armed forces and promotes the fair and a. with reference to the Naval Vessels Market Report 2019-2029 and the allegedly forecast global market volume of approximately USD 90 billion in the industry sector covered by the fair.

There is a ban on photography, film and audio recording on both the exhibition stands and the conference.

Entrance fees to the 2018 show ranged from £ 50 to £ 1,850 (around 2,088 at the time ). Only members of the military (in uniform) and press representatives have free access. Entrance fees for the 2020 show range from £ 90 to £ 2,000 (around 2,320 )

UDT 2017

In 2017 the UDT took place in Bremen . The topics covered were underwater weapon systems, anti -submarine technologies, mine warfare and critical safety-relevant developments in underwater warfare. This includes the fight against terrorism, the protection of infrastructure ( submarine cables ) and smuggling with drug submarines .

The exhibitors included a number of specialized companies, but also the marine divisions of large corporations such as Saab , Rolls-Royce and ThyssenKrupp . Companies from Germany such as Rhode & Schwarz , Cassidian Optronics and Atlas Elektronik exhibited . The 2017 event in Bremen was controversial. Politically wanted by the Senate (SPD / Greens) , however, various political groups in the Hanseatic city rejected the event and pleaded for Bremen to be made a "peace power". For the Bremen Peace Forum, which sees itself as a citizens' initiative that is critical of the military and armaments, the UDT is a sales event for "weapons the world doesn't need."

The opening speech was given by the inspector of the German Navy, Vice Admiral Andreas Krause , and the trade fair chairman was Peter Hauschildt, Head of Product Management, Research & Development in the "Submarines" department at thyssenkrupp Marine Systems .

UDT 2018

In 2018 the UDT took place from June 26th to 28th in Glasgow, Scotland . Around 1,100 industry representatives representing more than 40 countries and more than 100 VIP guests were announced. For the first time there was the "BABCOCK INNOVATION ZONE" during the event, in which new technologies and innovations in the field of underwater defense were presented with a special focus on the representation of start-ups and small companies. The aim was to present their products and services to the technical specialists and decision-makers of the world's leading companies for underwater defense and security as well as their customers.

The conference was chaired by James Kelly, Technical Director of ATLAS Electronics UK.

UDT 2019

The fair in Stockholm was attended by 1,500 professional participants, about half of whom came from industry and 20% from the military sector and represented 40 countries. According to the organizer, she was supported by both the Swedish Army and the Swedish Office for Armaments and Defense Technology. On the six subject areas, u. a. Representatives of the Swedish Navy , the Australian Ministry of Defense , the Dutch Navy , ATLAS ELEKTRONIK UK Ltd , the Swedish Armaments and Defense Agency, the Swedish Naval Staff and representatives of the Human Interface Technologies team from the University of Birmingham and the Swedish Royal Technical University .
