Cassidian (until September 17, 2010 as EADS Defense & Security ) was the defense and security division of the EADS Group until January 2014 . It was a leading defense company, system integrator, and provider of air, land, sea, and communication systems. The Cassidian headquarters was in Unterschleißheim , Germany . In 2014 it became part of Airbus Defense and Space .

Foundation of EADS Defense & Security
The EADS Defense & Security Systems Division was founded on July 1, 2003. In it, the activities of guided missile systems (LFK), defense electronics, military aircraft and telecommunications of the EADS group were combined.
It was divided into the following business units:
- Missiles ( guided missile systems )
- Defense Electronics (defense electronics such as sensors, electronics and mission avionics)
- Military aircraft
- Defense & Communication Systems (defense and communication systems)
- Services (military service sector)
Tom Enders became the first CEO of the new division. Stefan Zoller had headed the defense and security division of the EADS Group since 2005.
Renamed Cassidian
On September 17, 2010, the former CEO (2005 to 2012) Stefan Zoller changed the name from EADS Defense & Security to Cassidian. The brand name Cassidian is a made-up word from the Latin words Cassida (helmet) and Meridian and was intended to express global protection and safety.

In 2012, the new CyberSecurity (information technology security) division was created with the associated German subsidiary Cassidian CyberSecurity GmbH (based in Ottobrunn).

On January 1, 2014, the EADS divisions Airbus Military , Astrium and Cassidian were merged to form the new Airbus Defense and Space .
