Accident photogrammetry

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Accident photogrammetry or accident photogrammetry refers to the evaluation of measurement images after a traffic accident in order to permanently document the course of the accident and any braking and other traces. It is a branch of photogrammetry .

For the exact measurement and documentation of the accident site it is necessary that the photographs are taken from different angles. This is because the points and traces essential for the course of the accident are determined on the evaluation device ( stereo comparator ) by means of geometric sections of the respective image rays, whereby every relevant object can be located in three-dimensional space. Before this, a local measurement of some control points - if possible in the system of national coordinates - must be carried out.

Development of the subject and training courses

Accident photogrammetry established itself as a branch of photogrammetry in the 1980s , particularly at the technical universities in Vienna (Prof. Karl Kraus ) and in Hanover .

The universities also offer postgraduate programs for graduated engineers, as well as some training courses for the police . It also deals with the possibilities of achieving a perfect accident record with amateur cameras. This is especially important that sufficient image overlap each photo and the involvement scale imaging lines.

In some cases, stereo close-ups are used to document damage, for example of contact areas in the case of sheet metal damage, or to avoid insurance fraud .

Phidias

Phidias ( Ph otogrammetrisches I nteraktives Di gitales A uswerte s ystem) is a system for the production of true to scale sketches of crime scenes / accident sites. The procedure was introduced at the police in Lower Saxony in 1998 . The police in North Rhine-Westphalia have been using this system since 2000 .
