The Union Knopf GmbH is a 1911 in Berlin , was established German manufacturer of knobs and furniture fittings . The company has been based in Bielefeld in East Westphalia in North Rhine-Westphalia since 1959 .

In addition to its headquarters in Bielefeld, Union Knopf also operates the PSW button factory in Wuppertal . The group is active worldwide at locations in the People's Republic of China , Hong Kong , India , Poland and Turkey . According to its own information, the company currently employs around 700 people. According to the online edition of the Handelsblatt , the number of employees in 2011 was 1025.

history

The company was founded in Berlin in 1911 as a trading company with its own manufacture. Kurt Dolleschel joined the company in 1918. In 1938 the name was changed to Union Knopf Ehrich & Co. , in 1950 the name was changed to Union Knopf GmbH, which still exists today . From 1959 Union Knopf produced in Bielefeld, then under the direction of Manfred Dolleschel. The PSW button factory has been part of the Union Knopf Group since 1971 . In 1975 the production of furniture fittings began. In 1988 Martin Dolleschel joined the GmbH and has been the sole managing director since 2009. The location in Poland was founded in 1996.

In August 2015 the company announced that it would stop production in Bielefeld at the end of 2015. As a result, the number of jobs in Bielefeld fell by 16 to 169. In February 2017, Managing Director Martin Dolleschel declared that a protective shield procedure had been opened for Union Knopf GmbH at the Bielefeld District Court . 123 employees were affected.

In 2014, the ex-managing director Manfred Dolleschel opened a public button museum in Bielefeld's neighboring town of Verl .
