The John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School ( USAJFKSWCS ) is the United States Army's training center for the special operations units of the United States Army Special Operations Command (USASOC).

At the center, all aspects of unconventional warfare and the special mission profiles of the Special Operations Forces of this armed forces and their operational concepts, operational principles and the corresponding training courses are conveyed. The USAJFKSWCS, like the USASOC, is located on the site of Fort Bragg ( North Carolina ), the largest military base in the world. Individual units of the center are both in Fort Benning ( Georgia ) and in Camp Mackall (North Carolina) (the Colonel Nick Rowe Special Forces Training Facility stationed). 41 courses are currently offered for around 3,100 participants.

history

In 1950, the United States Army established the Psychological Warfare Division (PSYWAR) of the Army General School in Fort Riley, Kansas. Two years later it was relocated to Fort Bragg as the United States Army Psychological Warfare Center and School and renamed the United States Army Center for Special Warfare / United States Army Special Warfare School in 1956 . The center was mandated to develop the doctrine, techniques and training of special forces and personnel involved in psychological warfare. In 1960 this was expanded to include training content in the field of counterinsurgency. Two years later, a Special Forces Training Group was created to train volunteers for use within special forces. An Advanced Training Committee was set up to develop methods for infiltration and exfiltration of operating rooms. On May 16, 1969, the center was renamed the United States Army Institute for Military Assistance . The curriculum now also included training in military parachuting (HALO) and diving with compressed air diving equipment .

On April 1, 1972, the United States Army Civil Affairs School was moved from Fort Gordon to Fort Bragg and subordinated to the center, which a year later was in turn subordinate to the newly created United States Army Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC). On June 1, 1982, the Chief of Staff of the Army approved the conversion to an independent training center within TRADOC as the United States Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center (SWC) as a throwback to John F. Kennedy , who was responsible for matters during his tenure who had used Green Berets heavily. In 1985 the center was finally renamed the United States Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School (SWCS) and six training areas were created:

• Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape ( SERE )
• Foreign Area Officer
• Civil Affairs
• Psychological Operations

On June 20, 1990, the SWCS was subordinated to the United States Special Operations Command (USASOC).
