Recruitment and training

The members of the Marine Reconnaissance Battalions are recruited from among the strongest and most experienced infantrymen in the Marine Corps. Before they are assigned to one of the reconnaissance battalions, the aspirants go through an extremely demanding selection process that is far above the standard of the Marine Corps requirement profile, which is already considered particularly tough. If this selection phase successfully completed, the future runs through Recon Marine the Basic Reconnaissance Course ( "basic course for Enlightenment") in the Reconnaissance Training Company ( "Training Reconnaissance Company ") of the School of Infantry West ( "Infantry School West"). There, applicants are trained in operational planning, reconnaissance and survival techniques, rapid abseiling from helicopters, training in artillery and air strikes , boat combat management and covert amphibious operations .

After completing this course, the soldier receives the official job title Reconnaissance man (MOS 0321) and must now complete the SERE training at the Army Airborne School and the Combat Diver School (" Combat Diver School "). If he has successfully completed this, optional specializations in sniper , military freefall ("military freefall jumping"), helicopter rope suspension training expert ("helicopter rappelling instructor") follow. Some Recon Marines also pass through the Ranger Course (Ranger course) of the US Army Rangers in Fort Benning in the US state of Georgia .
