history

The Universe Apollo was built in 1958 under construction number 66 by National Bulk Carriers in Kure , Japan for the company Universe Tankships of the tanker shipping company Daniel K. Ludwig. On February 16, 1959, after a construction period of only seven months, she went on her first trip to the Persian Gulf in the Idemitsu Kōsan charter . With its four steam-powered charge pumps, it was able to charge its entire charge in just 80 hours and discharge it in 30 hours. After the changes to the regulations on the freeboard for tankers in 1962, the carrying capacity increased to over 120,000 tons. In 1977 the ship was launched in Piraeus and in 1979 it was finally sold to Taiwanese abandoners . It arrived in Kaohsiung on September 5, 1979 for demolition.
