The University of Rijeka ( Croatian : Sveučilište u Rijeci ) is a Croatian university with locations in Rijeka , Pula , Opatija and Gospić as well as 16,450 students and almost 1,000 academic employees (2003).
It was founded in 1973, with individual faculties going back to a Jesuit college founded in 1627 , namely schools for philosophy, theology and a Habsburg academy of arts. Other universities in Rijeka are the Rijeka Marine University and the Rijeka University . The current rector of the university is Daniel Rukavina (member of the Croatian Academy of Sciences ).
From 1983 until the beginning of the 1990s the university was called "University" Vladimir Bakarić "in Rijeka".
