Bogomil Karlavaris

Bogomil Karlavaris (born November 18, 1924 in Perlez , Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes ; † July 8, 2010 in Novi Sad , Serbia ) was a Yugoslav painter , university teacher and educator .

biography

After attending school in Vršac , he first studied pedagogy at the Pedagogical University in Novi Sad and then painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Belgrade , which he finished in 1953. In 1969 his promotion to Dr. phil. in education at the Ernst-Moritz-Arndt University of Greifswald .

First he was a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Novi Sad , before he was appointed professor at the Pedagogical Faculty of the University of Rijeka in 1981 . At the same time he became a member of the HDLU ( Hrvatsko društvo likovnih umjetnika , Croatian Society of Fine Artists). During this time he was also the author of numerous specialist books on the subjects of art education and methodology .

Furthermore, Karlavaris devoted himself to painting . His works have been shown in numerous solo exhibitions in Novi Sad, Belgrade, Zagreb , Skopje , Podgorica , Rijeka, Stuttgart , Warsaw , Moscow , Munich , Rosenheim , Graz , Kastav , Poreč , Pula and Rovinj , but also in collective exhibitions.

Karlavaris, who has won several awards, received the Edwin Ziegfeld Award in 1993 , an art prize from the United States Society for Education through Art .

In 1998, a retrospective of his work was exhibited at HDLU Rijeka in collaboration with the City Museum. Since 2006 he has been a corresponding member of the Vojvodin Academy of Sciences and Arts (VANU).

In 2003 he stood for election to the Croatian parliament for the Socijalistička Radnička Partija founded by Stipe Šuvar ; but the party did not make it into parliament.
