The University Library Chemnitz is the University Library of the Technical University of Chemnitz in Saxony city of Chemnitz .

history

The university library of the TU Chemnitz has its origins in the library of the Royal Business School Chemnitz, which was founded in 1836 . Together with the library holdings of the building trade school opened in 1837 and the master craftsman's school established in 1885, as well as the trade drawing school, which was connected to the trade school from the start, the library of the Chemnitz State Technical College was established in 1878. With the move to the main building on Schillerplatz, a room was available for maps and magnificent works, a reading room, lending and the magazine. The library also became a display point for patents from the German Patent Office for Chemnitz and the surrounding area. In 1909 the library moved into new, generously planned rooms in the north building of the Uniteil Str. Der Nations, where the central library is still located today. In 1955 the expansion to the university library began. Since 1986 it has had university library status.
