The Lower Neckar nature reserve : Altneckar Heidelberg-Wieblingen is located in the Heidelberg district in Baden-Württemberg .

Characteristics

The protected area was created on December 17, 1986 by ordinance of the Karlsruhe Regional Council with the protected area number 2.097. This ordinance was published in the Law Gazette for Baden-Württemberg on February 13, 1987 and came into force thereafter. The CDDA code is 166006 and corresponds to the WDPA ID .

location

The nature reserve is located along the Neckar in the city of Heidelberg near the Wieblingen district , it is part of the FFH area 6517-341 Unterer Neckar Heidelberg-Mannheim . In 1986, six areas were designated as a common nature reserve under the heading Lower Neckar . However, since they are not spatially related, the protected area statistics and the protected area profiles of the LUBW use six separate names. Several landscape protection areas, which are also located along the Lower Neckar and connect the nature reserves with each other, serve as supplementary areas. The Altneckar Heidelberg-Wieblingen sub-area described here lies in the natural area 224- Neckar-Rhine plain within the natural spatial main unit 22- Northern Upper Rhine Lowland .

Protection purpose

The main protection purpose is according to the Protected Area Ordinance

  • the preservation of the lower reaches of the Neckar and its river banks, floodplains and foreland, in particular the originally formed, near-natural, non-navigable river sections with wild river character;
  • the preservation and promotion of the various plant communities that are typical of the river landscape on the lower Neckar and in some cases increasingly endangered, whose vegetation mosaic corresponds to the local diversity;
  • the preservation and promotion of a fauna typical of the floodplain, in particular European bird species, which are often endangered and in some cases threatened with extinction;
  • Securing the spatially close association of habitats for plants and animals, which are of vital importance, especially for migratory animal species as breeding, resting, feeding and wintering areas.
