history

In 1715, Unterkohlfurth is marked with two farms on the map of Erich Philipp Ploennies under the name Colfert , together with the neighboring Oberkohlfurth (one farm). On the topographical recording of the Rhineland from 1824, both places are as Goeresholfried and on the Prussian first recording from 1844 as Unt. kohlfurth recorded.

In 1815/16 there were 144 people living in Ober- and Unterkohlfurth Ort. In 1830, the places called Weiler belonged to the mayor's office of Kronenberg ; 178 people lived there at that time. In 1832, Unterkohlfurth was part of the Berghauser district within the mayor's office. The place, which was categorized as a village according to the statistics and topography of the Düsseldorf administrative district , had a public building, 23 residential buildings, twelve factories or mills and 17 agricultural buildings at that time. At that time there were 192 residents in both places, ten of them Catholic and 182 Protestant. The municipality and estate district statistics of the Rhine Province list the place in 1871 with 24 houses and 176 inhabitants. In the municipality lexicon for the province of Rhineland in 1885 32 houses with 194 inhabitants are given. In 1895 the district had 32 houses with 209 inhabitants.

There was a school in Unterkohlfurth. The regional tram line 5 ( Wuppertal – Solingen ), which was closed in 1969 , had the Schulkohlfurt stop here.

At the beginning of 2010, the district made headlines in the local media because of the soil pollution from a former electroplating company . Investigations of the soil and the groundwater showed increased values for chromium (VI) , nickel , highly volatile halogen hydrocarbons ( LHKW ) and perfluorinated surfactants ( PFT ). Between May 2010 and June 2011, the Altlastensanierungs- und Altlastenaufbereitungsverband NRW (AAV), in cooperation with the city of Wuppertal, exchanged 20,000 tons of soil on an area of around 1,400 square meters. The company buildings were also demolished. The cost of the renovation measure was around 3.2 million euros. The area was no longer built on and thus part of an adjacent nature reserve.
