As Sergeant students (UffzS or US, Russian Унтер-офицер курсант / cadet ; English sergeant candidate ) referred to soldiers of the National People's Army , the East German border troops and other armed organs of the GDR during the period of training as a sergeant on time (UAZ) or Professional NCO . This usually took place at a non-commissioned officer school . The equivalent in the People's Navy was the mate student .
These ranks corresponded to the candidates for NCOs or candidates for mate in the Wehrmacht and the Bundeswehr .
education
The training took place depending on the career and use at a military technical school of the respective armed forces , the fleet school "Walter Steffens" of the People's Navy or in the troops, it lasted six to ten months, later six to eight months depending on the subject and duration of employment.
Admission
The prerequisite for access to NCO training was the intermediate maturity , which was usually achieved by completing the 10th grade of the general polytechnic high school (POS). Vocational NCO students had to have completed vocational training. People with vocational training but a lower school leaving certificate could, under certain conditions, gain access to secondary education, for example by taking part in special courses.
uniform
The uniform of the non-commissioned officer students depended on their intended duration of use, for prospective non-commissioned officers it corresponded to that of the soldiers, while professional non-commissioned officers wore worsted uniforms when working in the office. The field service suit was the same for everyone.
Badge of rank
Non-commissioned officers of the land and air forces as well as the border troops of the GDR wore team shoulder flaps (soldier, private from the late 1980s) with a crossbar made of fabric in their weapon color on their starting and (winter) service uniform . The bar on the shoulder pieces of the field service uniform was black. Instructors who were still Uffz students themselves carried two crossbars like corporal corporations. Non-commissioned officers (UaZ) wore a silver-colored non - commissioned officer ' s square (gold-colored in the case of mate students) and the relevant career badge on the sleeve of the uniform jacket and coat, such as the gold-colored star as a symbol of the nautical career. The double angle for professional non-commissioned officers was dropped in 1984 without replacement.
