Unterrieden is a district of the municipality of Oberrieden (Swabia) in the district of Unterallgäu in the Free State of Bavaria .

geography

Unterrieden is located about three kilometers north of the capital Oberrieden and two kilometers west of Pfaffenhausen . The district is connected to the main town by the main road / Unterried. The Kammel , which was regulated in 1967 and 1969 in the municipal area, flows through the corridors of Unterrieden .

history

Unterrieden, which was also often called Niederrieden , was first mentioned in 1167 in the Isingrim reliquary donation . The place, which then belonged to the Guelph estate, was assigned to the Mindelberg castle lordship. In 1284 Heinrich von Mindelberg sold the mill at Unterrieden to the Augustinian monastery in Mindelheim . Ecclesiastically the place belonged to the parish of Pfaffenhausen. As a result, he was historically closely linked to Pfaffenhausen. While there were 65 farms in Unterrieden at the beginning of the 20th century, the number halved by 1987. In the early modern era, Unterrieden had two mills, two innkeepers, one each with a wagner, blacksmith, carpenter, saddler, plumber and butcher. These had to close over time, so that only one sawmill could survive in Unterrieden at the end of the 20th century.

On May 1, 1978 Unterrieden was incorporated into the neighboring municipality of Oberrieden.

Attractions

The town's church, completed in 1710, is the biggest attraction. Next to it is a statue of the Virgin Mary from 1866 in the center of the village. A Lourdes grotto was established south of the village in 1891 .

education

In 1938 a schoolhouse was built in the community, which included a barn, a stable and a shed. The schoolhouse, which at that time consisted of only one classroom, was renovated in 1949 and another classroom was added. Today Unterrieden belongs to the Pfaffenhausen School Association.
