from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Uriel von Gemmingen (born March 25, 1644 at Hornberg Castle ; † May 31, 1707 ) was the Württemberg-new city court master , director of the knightly canton of Kraichgau and landlord in Hochberg and Rappenau .

Life

He was a son of Weiprecht von Gemmingen (1608–1680) and Anna Benedicta von Gemmingen-Fürfeld († 1647). Uriel von Gemmingen received his training at the pedagogy in Stuttgart, where he especially learned Latin and Greek. After studying philosophy and law in Tübingen, where three of his brothers also studied, the cavalier tour took him to various German courts. He devoted himself to music and composed sacred and secular pieces. Health reasons kept him from a military career. From 1671 he was a councilor in the knight canton of Kraichgau . From 1674 to 1678 he was court master of Duke Friedrich von Württemberg-Neuenstadt . From 1680 he administered the paternal inheritance jointly with his brothers Erpho (1641–1688), Weiprecht (1642–1702) and Reinhard (1645–1707). In 1681 he married Ursula Esther Nothrachtin von Hochberg and thus came into the possession of the Hochberg rule (today a part of Remseck am Neckar ). In 1684 he became director of the knightly canton of Kraichgau. In 1688 he shared his father's inheritance with the brothers and received Rappenau, where he donated two new bronze bells for the church, the predecessor of today's Evangelical City Church , in 1698. In 1707 he suffered a stroke at the convent of the Swabian knight circle in Esslingen, where his pregnant wife Ursula accompanied him. Because of a French invasion, he did not return to his property, but fled to Hohenlohe, where he died between Sulzbach and Schwäbisch Hall as a result of the stroke.

family

He was married to Esther Nothrachtin von Hochberg († 1734), who is also buried in Hochberg. The last child born after Uriel's death was given the name of the father. The son Karl Ludwig von Gemmingen (1700–1752), who outlived his brothers, became the heir.
