Urinary and sexual apparatus
As urinary and sexual apparatus (lat. Apparatus urogenital ), urogenital tract or urogenital system are in vertebrates the urinary organs ( Organa urinaria ) and the sex organs ( Organa genitalia combined).
This overarching term for the two organ systems was due to common embryological systems introduced. The similarities in origin can still be seen in the adult vertebrate. So these organs are closely adjacent and have a common opening. In male mammals, the urethra or the vaginal vestibule and the vulva in female. Mainly in birds, but also in monotones , the genital organs, ureters and intestines flow into a common opening, the cloaca .
Genitourinary disorders
These include, for example, infections of the urogenital tract:
- Inflammation of the glans (balanitis)
- Inflammation of the epididymis (epididymitis)
- Inflammation of the prostate gland (prostatitis)
- Inflammation of the urethra (urethritis)
- Adnexitis , inflammation of the fallopian tubes (salpingitis) , inflammation of the lining of the uterus (endometritis) , pelvic inflammation (PID)
- Bacterial vulvovaginitis
- Vaginal inflammation ( colpitis or vaginitis )
- Tubo-ovarian abscess
- Inflammation of the cervix (cervicitis)
- Infections after gynecological surgery
- Infections during pregnancy and after delivery; see also mastitis (inflammation of the mammary gland)
