Uropyxis Roseana is a stand fungal art from the order of the rust fungi (Pucciniales). The fungus is an endoparasite of the legume Tephrosia talpa . Symptoms of the infestation by the species are rust spots and pustules on the leaf surfaces of the host plants. She is endemic to Mexico .

features

Macroscopic features

Uropyxis roseana can only be recognized with the naked eye by the spore beds protruding on the surface of the host. They grow in nests that appear as yellowish to brown spots and pustules on the leaf surfaces.

Microscopic features

The mycelium of Uropyxis Roseana grows as with all Uropyxis TYPES intercellular and forms Saugfäden that grow into the storage tissue of the host. The spermogonia of the species grow on both sides in small groups on the host leaves. The aecia growing around them are yellow-brown. Their yellowish aeciospores are 28–33 × 20–23  µm in size, ovate to broadly ellipsoidal and spiky. The fungus apparently does not develop uredia . The parts of the species are so far undescribed. The yellowish teliospores are two-celled and double-walled, usually ellipsoidal, spiny and usually 29–37 × 18–23 µm in size. Their stalk is colorless and apically up to 25 µm wide.

distribution

The known distribution area of Uropyxis roseana only includes Mexico .

ecology

The host plant of Uropyxis roseana is Tephrosia talpa . The fungus feeds on the nutrients present in the storage tissue of the plants, its spore beds later break through the leaf surface and release spores. The species goes through a microcyclic development cycle with spermogonia, aecia and telia. As an auto-ecologic parasite, it does not change host .
