Urs Wüthrich

Urs Wüthrich-Pelloli (* 1954 , resident in Trub BE ) is a Swiss politician ( SP ). From 2003 to 2015 he was a member of the Basellandschaftlichen government council and headed the education, culture and sports directorate . He was also President of the Government Council three times, most recently in 2013/14.

Professional Activities

Urs Wüthrich grew up in an Anabaptist family in the Emmental ; he helped on his uncle's farm and in his grandfather's saddlery. In the 1970s it was politicized by the socio-cultural upheaval of the 1968 movement . He is a trained businessman and completed specialist training as a psychiatric nurse in Solothurn. He then worked in the local psychiatric clinic from 1979 to 1980, and in 1981 he became general secretary and member of the VPOD management team . From 1990 onwards, Wüthrich was a lecturer for management training in the health sector and various vocational schools for nursing. Wüthrich gave up all professional activities after his election to the government council in 2003.

Political career

Wüthrich was a member of the Zuchwil municipal council from 1977 to 1980 . After a long break, from 1989 to 2001 he was a member of the social welfare office of the Sissach community . In 1994 he took over the presidency of the trade union federation in the canton of Basel-Landschaft. In 1995 Wüthrich was elected to the district administrator of the canton of Basel-Landschaft , from 1997 he was parliamentary group president.

Urs Wüthrich has been a member of the management of the cantonal SP and a delegate of the national SP since 1997.

On July 1, 2003 he was elected to the government council and therefore resigned from the district administrator. He was confirmed in office in the 2007 and 2011 renewal elections. In the government council he heads the education, culture and sports directorate. After the 2006/2007 and 2009/2010 years of office, he was President of the Government Council for the third time from July 2013 to June 2014. As announced in January 2014, he resigned from the government council after the 2015 renewal elections. Some media attribute his departure to internal party criticism; he was accused of treating attendance fees as private income, and no violation of the law was found. In the so-called fee affair, he repaid the canton CHF 2,425.

Wüthrich is a member of the board of the Naturfreunde Schweiz and is a member of the board of trustees of the Roger Federer Foundation .

Private

Urs Wüthrich is married to Carla Wüthrich-Pelloli and has three daughters. He lives in Sissach.
