Ursula Apitzsch

Ursula Apitzsch (born November 9, 1947 in Bersenbrück ) is a German political scientist and sociologist .

Career

Ursula Apitzsch published her dissertation “Social Theory and Aesthetics with Georg Lukács until 1933”, which she completed at the University of Frankfurt in 1977 . In 1990 she completed her habilitation “Migration and Biography: On the Constitution of the Intercultural in the Educational Courses of Young Adults of the Second Generation of Migrants” . Since 1998 she has been a member of the board of directors of the Cornelia Goethe Center for Women's Studies . From 1995 to 1999 she was chairwoman of the Biography Research section of the German Sociological Society . She is still part of the extended board today. Furthermore, she is a member of the Research Committee 39 of the International Sociological Association (ISA), which deals with “Sociology & Biography”. She has been teaching since 1993 (now as Emerita ) as a professor of political science and sociology at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main .

Apitzsch held visiting professorships in: Swansea , England (1991), University of California , Berkeley / USA (1992–1993), Florence , Italy (1994), Rome , Italy (1998) and Bologna , Italy (1999).

Research priorities

Her research focuses on cultural analysis, biography research, studies on migration , ethnicity and gender .

1997 to 2001 she coordinated a research project of the European Union “Self-employment activities concerning women and minorities. Their success or failure in relation to social citizenship policies ". Since December 2002 Apitzsch has headed the international research project "The Chances of the Second Generation in Families of Ethnic Entrepreneurs: Intergenerational and Gender Aspects of Quality of Life Processes". The project is based at the Institute for Social Research at the University of Frankfurt and is funded by the European Union.

She is also one of the editors of Antonio Gramsci's prison letters . She has published several articles in Das Argument .
