Ursula Kwasny (born September 5, 1952 in Kapellen , today Grevenbroich ) is a German politician ( CDU ). From 2009 to 2015 she was mayor of Grevenbroich.

Life

After attending the Catholic primary school in Noithausen from 1959 to 1967, the vocational school for domestic economics from 1967 to 1969 and the vocational training school from 1969 to 1970, she attended the Friedrich-Spee-Kolleg in Neuss from 1970 to 1973 . From 1973 to 1976 she studied social education and in 1976 worked as a social education worker in a women's refuge . After the wedding in 1974 and the birth of their first son, she and her husband took over the joint management of their own medium-sized painting business in 1977 . Kwasny has been widowed since 2015 and has two grown children.

Kwasny joined the CDU in 1988 and was elected to the Grevenbroich City Council the following year. Since 1999 she has also been a member of the district assembly of the Rhein-Kreis Neuss , was deputy parliamentary group leader of the CDU in the council and deputy mayor of the city of Grevenbroich. On September 21, 2004 she was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon for her political work . In the local elections in 2009, she ran as a candidate for the office of mayor of Grevenbroich and was elected with 33.07 percent of the valid votes. She became the first woman mayor of the city to succeed Axel Prümm . In the mayoral elections in September 2015, Ursula Kwasny lost to the SPD candidate Klaus Krützen in the runoff election with 44.8 to 55.2 percent of the valid votes.
