Hans Gottfried Bernrath

Hans Gottfried Bernrath (born July 5, 1927 in Osterath ; † July 25, 2010 in Grevenbroich ) was a German politician ( SPD ).

Life

From 1937 to 1943 Bernrath attended the Thomas Gymnasium in Kempen on the Lower Rhine . In the war years from 1943 to 1945 he was an air force helper , in the Reich Labor Service , in the military service and was ultimately taken prisoner of war . He joined the NSDAP in 1944 ( membership number 9.829.142). In 1946 Bernrath graduated from the Quirinus boys' high school in Neuss .

In 1946 and 1947 he worked in various industrial companies, then switched to the Deutsche Bundespost , where he worked from 1948 to 1967 and 1970 to 1980. As Ministerial Director a. From 1994 to 1998 he was chairman of the board of the Federal Agency for Post and Telecommunications .

In 1969 he was elected by the North Rhine-Westphalian state parliament to the fifth federal assembly, which elected Gustav Heinemann as federal president .

In 1980 he became a member of the German Bundestag . He remained so until his resignation on December 31, 1994. From 1987, Bernrath was chairman of the interior committee of the German Bundestag .
