Friedrich Schäfer (politician)

Friedrich Schäfer (born April 6, 1915 in Sindelfingen ; † August 31, 1988 in Tübingen ) was a German SPD politician . Schäfer was a member of the German Bundestag from 1957 to 1967 and from 1969 to 1980 .

Life and education

Schäfer attended secondary school and then studied law in Tübingen and Berlin . He completed his studies with both state exams and a doctorate to become a Dr. Jur. From. Between 1938 and 1943 Schäfer was a soldier in the Wehrmacht , then was released as first lieutenant due to an injury. From 1943 to 1946 he worked as a lawyer in Stuttgart . From 1946 to 1954 he worked in various administrative functions. In 1946 he was a government assessor in the district office of the Biberach district under district administrator Fritz Erler . Then he was State Commissioner for Refugees in the State of South Württemberg-Hohenzollern , Head of the State Police Department South Württemberg / Hohenzollern, Head of the State Police Department South Baden and the State Police School Baden-Württemberg. From 1967 to 1969 he was honorary professor at the University of Cologne and in 1969 at the University of Tübingen, in 1972 he was appointed to the State Court of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen .

In 1933 Friedrich Schäfer became a member of the NSDAP and the SA . In 1951 he joined the SPD. In 1957 he was elected to the German Bundestag via the Baden-Württemberg state list, to which he was a member until 1967 and again from 1969 to 1980. In the Bundestag from 1961 to 1966 he was the parliamentary manager of the SPD parliamentary group. From 1969 Schäfer was one of the deputy parliamentary group chairmen and from 1969 to 1976 chairman of the interior committee in the German Bundestag. Between 1967 and 1969 he was State Secretary in the Federal Ministry for Affairs of the Federal Council and the Länder under Carlo Schmid .

Other offices

Between 1979 and 1983 he was a board member of the German Association of Towns and Municipalities, from 1981 to 1983 as President. He was a member of the ZDF television council.

Schäfer was a member of the Hohenstaufia Tübingen gymnastics association .
