Ursula Volbeding

Ursula Volbeding , even in the name variant Vollbeding (* 1947 in Kiel , † 8. March 1982 in Zurich ) was a German opera singer ( soprano ).

Life

Volbeding studied singing at the Hamburg Music Academy and in Cologne . Then she was a member of the International Opera Studio in Zurich for two years. Since 1977 she has been a permanent member of the Zurich Opera House . She performed there and in Germany in the youthful-dramatic soprano subject. In Zurich she sang as leading roles a. a. Leonore in Fidelio and Senta in Der Fliegende Holländer . In both roles she had great success with the audience. She designed the Leonore with "fearless self-sacrifice"; the Senta, which she sang alternately with Hildegard Behrens as a second line-up , she gave "strong psychological credibility". The role of Leonore, who was their most important stage role she also sang at the Opera House Geneva , at the Opera House Frankfurt , at the Theater Augsburg , at the Hanover State Opera , the Theater Lübeck and at the Opera House of Lyon .

She also made guest appearances at the Stadttheater St. Gallen , the State Opera Stuttgart (as Leonore and Senta), the State Theater Wiesbaden and in Düsseldorf . In 1980 she sang the role of Irene in Wagner's early work Rienzi at the Perugia Opera House ; There is a live recording of one performance of the production. In the 1980/81 season she was a guest at the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels . In February 1981 she sang Brünnhilde in Siegfried and the roles of Gutrune and Third Norn in Götterdämmerung . Her other stage roles also included Amelia in Un ballo in maschera , the title role in Katja Kabanova and Elettra in Idomeneo . She could no longer accept an engagement at the Metropolitan Opera , where she was to make her debut as Siegfried -Brünnhilde.

Volbeding was married to the opera singer Peter Straka (* 1950). The marriage produced a son. Volbeding, who died at the age of 35, had suffered from an incurable disease since the early 1980s.
