Urto is an Italian thrash metal band from Partanna that was formed in 2000.

history

The band was formed in 2000 and consisted of singer and guitarist Mimmo Saladino and drummer Jaco Tractor. A little later, Francesco Gioia joined as bassist, followed by Alessandro Olivo as another guitarist. After a few appearances, Tractor and Olivo left the group. Saladino then went looking for a singer so that he could concentrate only on playing the electric guitar. A drummer was found in 2001 in the person of Giuseppe "Peppe" Campisi. Another guitarist was Giovanni Labita, a former pianist who was unable to continue this profession due to a broken wrist. In addition, Alessando Olivo came back to the band, but took over the vocals. With this line-up, the band could be seen in the summer of 2002 on Golisano Rock . After that, Olivo left the band again to devote himself to his own band, Ancestral . However, since Urto could not find a suitable replacement, he returned to the group in summer 2003. Then the EP Numbers was recorded, which was released that same year. Through the publication, the group was able to increase its awareness, also beyond the borders of Italy. In 2005 the band took part in the Delirium Festival and the Sicilian Rock Festival . In 2006 the band started writing new songs. She also took part in the Italian Metal Battle, the final of which she lost at the Evolution Festival , but thus took second place. In 2008 she worked on further material, with the band also featured on the soundtrack for the documentary Get Thrashed . The following year, a recording deal was signed with Punishment 18 Records . In 2009, the label released their debut album Upside Down .

style

David from metal.de stated that Numbers sounds a lot like 1980s Thrash Metal from the San Francisco Bay Area . As a reference, however, Metallica , Slayer or Testament are less suitable than Anthrax . Above all there is "[s] peedy Thrash riffing, clean melodies [and] gang-backing shouts", only the vocals don't come close to Joey Belladonna's , which is especially noticeable in the higher pitches. Instead, the singing is more “earthy”, like John Bush's . The album also pays homage to Stanley Kubrick with the song Full Heavy Metal Jacket . In the booklet, various politicians such as Vladimir Putin , George W. Bush , Ariel Sharon and Slobodan Milošević would be denounced. Chris from stormbringer.at wrote in his review of Upside Down that the beginning of the album suggests a classification as Progressive Metal , but it soon becomes clear that it is more Thrash Metal, more precisely a cross between Metallica and Slayer, act. Refrains, riffs and recognition would suffer as a result. The singer Olivo sings "permanently at the limit of pain" and tries to sound partly like James Hetfield and Bruce Dickinson , but he does not succeed. The texts came from Mimmo Saladino and were of a political nature. Overall, the album consists of "one tempo, a few riffs and countless solos ".
