Uruguayan Ministry of Health

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Ministry of Public Health (Spanish Ministerio de Salud Pública ) (MSP) is one of the ministries of the State of Uruguay .

The duties of the ministry include the control of all public and private health care centers. The position of Minister of Health was created on September 5, 1933 during Gabriel Terra's reign . Law No. 9.202, passed on January 12, 1934, the so-called Ley Orgánica de Salud Pública , formed the basis for the establishment of the ministry. As part of this legal regulation, the two bodies that existed to date, the Consejo Nacional de Higiene and the Asistencia Pública Nacional, were merged. The first head of the newly created authority was Eduardo Blanco Acevedo . The ministry has been headed by Daniel Olesker since March 1, 2010 , from whom his former State Secretary Jorge Enrique Venegas took over the ministry on July 19, 2011. In February 2013, Susana Muñiz became the new Minister of Health.
