Uta Heil

Uta Heil (* 1966 ) is a German Protestant church historian and teaches as a professor at the University of Vienna . Her research concerns Christianity in antiquity , especially in late antiquity .

Life

From 1985 to 1993 she studied Protestant theology at the Church University of Bethel and at the University of Bonn . From 1995 to 1997 she completed a doctoral degree at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg . After completing her doctorate , she worked as a research assistant at the Chair for Church History I (Older Church History) at the Evangelical Theological Faculty in Erlangen - Nuremberg . From 1999 to 2004 she was a research assistant there and from 2004 to 2009 a research assistant there. From 2000 to 2012 she worked on the edition of the writings of Athanasius of Alexandria: DFG project “Editio critica maior of the Athanasius works. Volume II (Apologies) ”, commissioned by the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences , and“ Editio critica maior of the Athanasius works. Volume III (Documents on the History of the Arian Controversy) ”, also on behalf of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences. After her habilitation in 2009, she represented the Chair of Church History I (Older Church History, Hanns Christof Brennecke ) in the Department of Theology at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg from 2009 to 2010 and in 2011 the Chair of Church History at the Theological Faculty of the University of Jena . From 2013 to 2015 she was a DFG Heisenberg fellow . In 2012/2013 she taught as a visiting professor at the Evangelical Theological Faculty of the University of Tübingen . In 2014 she turned down the call to the W3 professorship for Church History I (Older Church History) at the University of Munich . Since March 2015 she has been University Professor of Church History at the Institute for Church History, Christian Archeology and Church Art of the Evangelical Theological Faculty of the University of Vienna.

Her research interests are early Christian apologetic writings of the second century, "Arian" controversy over the Trinity theology from the fourth to the sixth century / creeds and synod, Christianity during the "Migration Period" (400–600 AD) and scriptural interpretation in the old Church.
