Uttersberg is a small town in the Swedish province of Västmanland and the historic province of Västmanland . It is located in the municipality of Skinnskatteberg on the Hedströmmen river and is part of the Bergslagen mining region .
The name of the place is derived from the name Utterclou , a businessman from the 17th century. In the 16th century, the first iron-processing companies were established on Hedströmmen , using the river's hydropower. The place received a railway connection with the unusual gauge of 1093 mm in 1866. Passenger traffic was maintained by the private Köping-Uttersberg-Riddarhyttans Järnväg until 1952, before it was bought by the state, which only operated goods traffic until 1966. After the First World War , entrepreneurs and workers left the place when the demand for iron dwindled.
Today the manor and former workers' apartments still exist . A sculpture park and a gallery are housed on the former station grounds.
