Uwe Binias

Uwe Binias (born May 1956 in Braunschweig ) is a former German police chief. From November 1, 2011 to February 2018, he was President of the State Presidium for Police, Fire and Disaster Protection in the Lower Saxony Ministry of the Interior and Sport in Hanover . Before that, he had been police chief of the Hanover Police Department since December 1, 2007 .

Life

Binias joined the police service of the Lower Saxony police in 1975 . After basic training and assignments in Braunschweig , Osnabrück and Wolfsburg , among others , he was a clerk in the criminal police department of the Lower Saxony Ministry of the Interior for over four years .

After completing the advancement course to higher service and various assignments in the Lower Saxony State Criminal Police Office and the Braunschweig district government , Uwe Binias was State Police Director in the Lower Saxony Ministry of the Interior from August 1, 2005 to November 30, 2007. Between 2007 and 2011 he was police chief of the Hanover Police Department. When he was appointed police president in 2007, he also took over the office of club president in the Hanover Police Sports Club , which is held by the Hanover police chief according to the statutes.

On October 25, 2011 it was announced that Binias would be promoted to State Police President with effect from November 1, 2011, and that he would succeed Andreas Bruns. Binias' successor in office as President of the Hanover Police Department was Axel Brockmann , who previously worked in the Ministry of the Interior in the field of crime-fighting.

On October 10, 2017, five days before the state elections in Lower Saxony , Binias announced that he would be leaving the CDU. In February 2018, Uwe Binias went into temporary retirement . He was succeeded by Axel Brockmann .

Binias is married and has two grown daughters. One of them is the German writer Ninia Binias , also known as Ninia LaGrande .
