Axel Brockmann (* 1964 in Wunstorf ) has been President of the State Presidium for Police, Fire and Disaster Protection in the Lower Saxony Ministry of the Interior and Sport in Hanover since February 2018 . From 2011 to 2013 he was Police President of the Hanover Police Department .

Life

Axel Brockmann joined the middle police service of the Lower Saxony police force in 1984 as a police sergeant candidate . From 1990 to 1993 he completed a degree at the Lower Saxony University of Applied Sciences for Administration and Justice in Hildesheim and rose to the senior service . This was followed by qualification for the higher service at the Police Leadership Academy in Hiltrup from 1997 to 1999 . After a subsequent assignment as head of department in the Lower Saxony State Criminal Police Office , responsible for investigations into politically motivated crime , he switched to the Lower Saxony Ministry of the Interior. There Brockmann was entrusted with the areas of police state security and organized crime . From 2006 to 2008 he was head of the state security department at the State Criminal Police Office. This was followed by the position of Head of the Crime Fighting Division in the State Presidium for Police, Fire and Disaster Management within the Lower Saxony Ministry of the Interior.

In 2011, the then Lower Saxony Interior Minister Uwe Schünemann (CDU) appointed Axel Brockmann as Police President of the Hanover Police Department after his predecessor Uwe Binias had become State Police President in the Interior Ministry. During his tenure as police chief, Brockmann was involved in the fight against rocker crime and the right-wing extremist group Besseres Hannover .

When he was appointed police president in 2011, he also took over the office of club president in the Hanover Police Sports Club , which is held by the Hanover police chief according to the statutes.

After the change of government in Lower Saxony in 2013 , the new interior minister Boris Pistorius (SPD) canceled Brockmann's appointment as police president. Axel Brockmann then carried out his previous position as head of department in the Lower Saxony Ministry of the Interior. In 2014 Brockmann ran unsuccessfully against the incumbent Hauke ​​Jagau (SPD) in the election of the President of the Hanover Region . The candidacy took place as a non-party member for the CDU ; later Brockmann joined the party.

In February 2018, Axel Brockmann was appointed State Police President by Lower Saxony's Interior Minister Boris Pistorius. He took over from Uwe Binias, who was adopted into temporary retirement .

Axel Brockmann is married and has three children.
