Uwe Carstens

Uwe Carstens (born November 24, 1948 in Sankt Peter-Ording ) is a German political scientist and sociologist .

Career

After Magisterexamen Carstens graduated with an empirical study on the refugee camp in the city of Kiel at the Kiel University Dr. phil. Numerous publications on the subject of flight, displacement and integration followed. In the early 1990s, Carstens turned to Tönnies research. He published the first and only biography of Ferdinand Tönnies , the 2nd updated edition of which was published in 2013 by the Nordfriesisches Institut publishing house, and also a work on Ferdinand Tönnies' friendship with the Husum poet Theodor Storm . On behalf of the Ferdinand-Tönnies-Gesellschaft (FTG) he edited the magazine Tönnies-Forum from 1994 to 2020 and was co-editor of the Ferdinand Tönnies complete edition from 2006 to 2020 . After years of research, in 2013 Carstens discovered the lost manuscript of the 2nd, 3rd and 4th parts of Tönnies´ " Geist der Neuzeit ". The corresponding volume of the TG was published, edited by Uwe and Bärbel Carstens, in 2016.

From 1992 to 2016 Carstens was managing director of FTG, which was founded in 1956, and managed the Ferdinand-Tönnies-Haus student residence . Since 1992 he has also been teaching at the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel . He was also a scientific advisor for the FTG.

On February 9, 2010, Uwe Carstens received the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon for his voluntary research work.
