Uwe Dittmer

Uwe Dittmer (born April 7, 1934 in Berlin ; † April 14, 2020 ) was a German Protestant theologian and author .

Career

Dittmer studied theology and was ordained pastor in 1959 . From 1959 to 1966 he worked as a pastor in Sperenberg . He then worked in the Potsdam Holy Cross Chapel . In 1966 Dittmer was appointed pastor for youth and students in the Potsdam church district and held this post until 1999, most recently he waived his salary in 1996 and went into early retirement . He then also taught lifestyle, ethics and religious studies at the Voltaire School in Potsdam . Dittmer had been a member of the Federal Synod since 1986 and in 1987 was Johannes Stemmler's first deputy at the Federal Synod.

In April 1968, he was the last pastor to hold a service in the Potsdam garrison church before it was blown up , but for years had spoken out against the reconstruction of the church.

Dittmer wrote a number of popular science books on theological subjects. He was a lecturer in the New Testament ; for a year he was visiting pastor of the United Church of Christ in the USA .

Uwe Dittmer was married; his wife died in a boat accident. He died in April 2020.
