Uwe Rosenthal (born April 23, 1950 in Packebusch , Altmark , Saxony-Anhalt ) is a German chemist and university professor.

Life

Uwe Rosenthal graduated from high school in Salzwedel (Altmark) in 1968 . Subsequently, he began studying chemistry at the University of Rostock , which he completed in 1972 with a diploma under Helmut Zinner . From 1973 Uwe Rosenthal worked initially as a temporary and later as a permanent research associate at the Central Institute for Organic Chemistry of the Academy of Sciences of the GDR in Rostock in the field of complex catalysis. In 1976 he was awarded a Dr. rer. nat. PhD . Mentor his doctoral thesis entitled Studies on Preparation and Properties of σ-organotransition-Phosphorylidverbindungen wasErhard Kurras . In 1988 Rosenthal went to the Nesmejanow Institute for Organoelement Compounds (INEOS) of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR in Moscow for a research stay with Mark Jefimowitsch Wolpin and Wladimir Schur . Another guest stay followed with Günther Wilke and Klaus Pörschke at the Max Planck Institute for Coal Research in Mülheim an der Ruhr from 1990 to 1991.

In 1989 the University of Rostock initially awarded Rosenthal a PhD B (Dr. sc. Nat.). Subsequently , Rosenthal completed his habilitation in 1991 on the subject of investigations into the preparation and properties of new alkyne complexes of nickel (0) as a contribution to structure-reactivity relationships with special consideration of alkyne cyclotrimerizations at the University of Rostock. After being employed by the Max Planck Society as head of the complex catalysis working group , he was appointed professor for inorganic chemistry at the University of Rostock in 1994 .

From 1997 on, Rosenthal headed the complex catalysis department at the Institute for Organic Catalysis Research at the University of Rostock e. V., whose deputy director he took over from 2003 to 2005. Since 2006 he has been a member of the board and deputy to the managing director and department head of the Leibniz Institute for Catalysis. V. at the University of Rostock .

Awards and other activities

In 1982, together with Wolfgang Schulz, Rosenthal received the Institute Prize from the Central Institute for Organic Chemistry of the Academy of Sciences. Furthermore, in 1997 he was awarded the Institute Prize for Organometallic Chemistry of the Nesmejanow Institute for Organoelement Compounds of the Academy of Sciences of Russia (with Vladimir Burlakov , Vladimir Schur and Andreas Ohff ).

From 2003 to 2005 Rosenthal was Advisory Editorial Board Member of the journal Organometallics . At the moment he is the spokesman of the Graduate School 1213 of the German Research Foundation (DFG) at the University of Rostock New Methods for Sustainability in Catalysis and Technology (since 2005) and an active member of the specialist chemistry forum and specialist college of the DFG for inorganic molecular chemistry.
