Uwe Rust

Uwe Rust (born May 21, 1940 in Magdeburg ; † April 15, 2012 ) was a German geographer specializing in the geomorphology of African deserts. He was Professor of Geography at the University of Munich (LMU). His specialties were geomorphology , soil geography and climatology .

Career

Rust received his doctorate in 1970 under Hans-Günter Gierloff-Emden at the LMU and completed his habilitation there in 1974. In 1980 he became a professor in Munich. He was a member of the Geographical Society in Munich . Because of his origins, he and his colleague Friedrich Wieneke did research on and excursions to northern Germany . His research focus was on expeditions on the geomorphology of the Namib desert, on which he wrote his habilitation thesis together with Friedrich Wieneke. He was also significantly involved in the Inter- University Namibia Research Group (IUNFG).

At the Physico-Geographical Faculty of the LMU, Rust held introductory lectures in climatology as well as courses on the South and North African arid regions as well as advanced seminars with a focus on geomorphological issues.
