life and work

Seidel studied Protestant theology at the Church University of Wuppertal . In August 1971 he was named pastor ordained . From 1975 to 1985 he worked in the People's Missionary Office of the Evangelical Church in the Rhineland in Düsseldorf, where, among other things, he developed new forms of worship. From January 1, 1985 until his retirement in September 2000, he was pastor of the Evangelical Church Community in Cologne-Klettenberg and was in charge of a parish at the Johanneskirche . There he initiated the ecumenically oriented Beatmessen , of which Hanns Dieter Hüsch was a regular guest , but where Friedrich Karl Barth and Dietmar Schönherr also performed. In 1995 he wrote the text for the New Spiritual Song No day should exist , the melody of which Thomas Quast composed in 1997. At the Kirchentag in Düsseldorf in 1973, Seidel designed a liturgical night for the first time , which became the model for a new form of worship.

After his retirement, Seidel lived in the Westerwald village of Mehren . He was married to his wife for 40 years until his death.
