Uwe Stoltefuß (born December 26, 1955 in Unna ; † August 8, 2013 in Essen ) was a German jockey and horse racing trainer. With a total of 2070 victories, he was one of the most successful German trainers in German horse racing .

Uwe Stoltefuß began his horse racing career as a jockey with Hugo Danner . Due to his weight, he had to switch very quickly to the obstacle sport, which at that time was much more important than it is today. He achieved his greatest successes as an obstacle rider at Adolf Wöhler's racing stable and he won three national championships. In 1982 he finally switched to coaching and reached the high point of his career in the late 1980s when he formed Surumu's son Mondrian into one of the best German racehorses of all time. With him he won the German Derby in 1989 and from 1989 to 1990 he had a record seven Group I victories. It hit him all the harder when the owner took the horse away from him in 1991 and gave it to training in England. This change of coach turned out to be a fatally wrong decision and also meant that Mondrian did not find a good start in breeding after his racing career. As a result, Uwe Stoltefuß should produce many very good horses, but none of the Mondrian class. In total, the Galopp-Sieger.de database shows him 473 successes in major races. From 1996 to 1998 he was three times coach champion. Of course, he was particularly successful in the obstacle races, which was reflected in seven obstacle championships from 1986 to 1993. His successes with the legendary gelding Registano (1987–2002), who was still bred in the GDR and who achieved a GAG of 102, which is unimaginable for today's obstacle sport in Germany, are particularly memorable .

Uwe Stoltefuß was never the trainer of the famous stud farms or the wealthy owners. It was the small owners and racing enthusiasts who put their trust in him and filled his racing stable, which is always based in Dortmund, with up to 140 horses. For him, the big week in fashionable Baden-Baden was not the annual highlight of the year, but the racing week in Bad Harzburg. When he was absent there in 2013 for the first time in decades, the regular guests took care of this, because at the end of 2012 Uwe Stoltefuß was diagnosed with leukemia . A stem cell therapy carried out at the time seemed to be very successful at first, but during the derby week in Hamburg at the beginning of July 2013, two weeks before the Harzburg race week, he suffered a severe setback from which he could not recover.

During the racing weeks in Hamburg and Bad Harzburg, a commemorative race has been held since his death.
