Mondrian (* 1986 , † September 26, 2005 ) was an English thoroughbred horse . The chestnut stallion was pulled out of the pier by Surumu .

Although he was already listed several times as a two-year-old, Mondrian was initially in the shadow of Turfkönig , who became the clear favorite for the German Derby with victories in the Winter Favorite Prize , the Mehl-Mülhens Race and the Union Race . There Mondrian came to an extremely controversial victory, because Taishan , who was initially placed almost two lengths in front of him, was disqualified because of Mondrian's handicap and was relegated to second place. Nevertheless, this win at the green table was Mondrian's breakthrough. With victories at the Germany Prize , the Aral Cup and the Baden Grand Prix , he repeated the Alpenkönig winning streak from 1970. He almost managed to win all five German Group I races in one year. In the European Prize in 1989, however, he was only second behind the Englishman Ibn Bey , 6 lengths behind. He made up for the lack of victory in the European Prize the following year. His greatest success, however, must be seen in the 1990 Baden Grand Prix, where he was able to leave his old rival Ibn Bey and a number of other strong foreigners clearly behind. At the age of five, Mondrian was then given to Paul Cole's training in England by his ancestral trainer Uwe Stoltefuß. There he could no longer build on his earlier successes and with a last place in the Grand Prix of Baden in 1991 he left the racecourse without a single word. Mondrian has a total of seven Group I wins. Together with Acatenango and Lando, he holds the record in Germany.

In breeding, Mondrian could not meet the expectations raised by his racing record. His best offspring is the multiple group winner and European Prize winner Well Made . The many good obstacle horses that he produced are also striking. His son Supervisor still pays tribute to his father as the best German obstacle horse (2009-2010), who died of a heart attack on September 26, 2005 at the age of 19.
