Uwe "Zimbo" Zimmermann (born February 11, 1962 in Kronau ) is a former German soccer goalkeeper .
Zimmermann began as a youth player at VfR Kronau and at the age of sixteen moved to SV Waldhof Mannheim , with whose A youth team he won the German championship in 1980 . In the 1982/83 season he replaced the previous goalkeeper Walter Pradt , who had suffered a serious injury. Zimmermann held this position until the 1989/90 season, which he almost completely missed due to an injury. His 215 games for Mannheim mean a Bundesliga record for the club to this day. This was followed by a move to SC Fortuna Köln and VfL Wolfsburg , with whom he was promoted to the Bundesliga in 1997 . After moving to Eintracht Braunschweig in 1999 , he was able to celebrate promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga there .
Uwe Zimmermann ended his career as a player in 2002 at the age of 40 and then became goalkeeping coach at LR Ahlen . Since the beginning of January 2007 Zimmermann has been working in this position for Sportfreunde Siegen . In 2013 he became the trainer of the SuS Niederschelden .
