Václav Vydra (born October 25, 1902 in Roudnice nad Labem , † May 19, 1979 in Prague ) was a Czech actor and theater director .

Life

Václav Vydra was the son of the actor Václav Vydra (1876–1953). After high school, he dropped out of business studies in favor of an acting career. He found work at the Budweis and Smíchov theaters before moving to Divadlo na Vinohradech in 1921 , where he finally worked as an actor and theater director until 1951. From 1952 until his death he was employed in the same function at the Městská divadla pražská (Prague Municipal Theater). At the same time, it was also occasionally heard on the radio and seen in over 20 film and television productions, including From my life and Black Saturday . From 1949 to 1951 he taught at the theater faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague . After the Second World War he became a member of Komunistická strana Československa .

Vydra was married to the actress Dana Medřická until his death . The marriage resulted in a son, the actor Václav Vydra (* 1956).
