The Vázquez Island ( Spanish Isla Vázquez , in the United Kingdom Truant Island for truant island ) is an island in the Palmer Archipelago off the west coast of the Antarctic Peninsula . It is located between Fridtjof and Bob Island off the southeastern coast of Wiencke Island .
Participants of the Fourth French Antarctic Expedition (1903-1905) under the direction of polar explorer Jean-Baptiste Charcot mapped them. Argentine scientists named them in the late 1940s. It is named after a crew member of the corvette Uruguay between 1904 and 1905. The name given by the UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee in 1959 reflects the circumstances under which the island has been or has not been shown on maps over the years .
