Vít Bárta (born December 5, 1973 in Prague ) is a Czech businessman and politician . He was a member of the Czech Chamber of Deputies for the city of Prague and chairman of the Věci veřejné party . From July 2010 to April 2011 he was Minister of Transport of the Czech Republic.

Life

After graduating from high school, he initially studied medicine without a degree. He later graduated from the Prague Police Academy and obtained a doctorate in law . Bárta built his own business during his studies. In 1998 he and his brother founded a security company, ABL sa , in which he was chairman of the board from 2002 to May 2010 and chairman of the supervisory board until early June 2010. He was a frequent speaker on security.

In July 2010 he married the politician Kateřina Klasnová .

In November 2010 he got his driving license revoked for six months for driving without a valid license plate, only with copies. He paid a fine of five thousand crowns and was the first incumbent Czech transport minister to have his driver's license revoked.

Political career

In 2010 he was elected to the Chamber of Deputies and succeeded Gustáv Slamečka as a cabinet member under Petr Nečas as Minister of Transport. In April 2011, Bárta was accused of bribery by his party colleagues, the MPs Jaroslav Škárka, Stanislav Huml and Kristýna Kočí . The MPs were subsequently expelled from the party. This incident led to considerable problems in the Czech government coalition . Bárta announced his resignation as minister on April 8, 2011, but took over the chairmanship of his party in the Chamber of Deputies. Prime Minister Nečas then demanded the withdrawal of the other members of the Věci veřejné government , including the Minister of Education Josef Dobeš and the party leader and interior minister Radek John . Foreign Minister Karel Schwarzenberg called Bárta a pitomec ( idiot ). On April 13, 2012, a Prague court sentenced Barta to an 18-month suspended prison term for bribery. Barta then resigned the chairmanship of his party in the Chamber of Deputies and left his party membership on hold. Prime Minister Necas and MPs from his own party called on Barta to give up his parliamentary mandate and to withdraw completely from politics.

On February 16, 2013 Bárta was elected as the successor to Radek John as the new chairman of the VV. He prevailed at the party congress with 80 out of 98 votes against four opposing candidates. VV did not run in the 2013 parliamentary elections and supported the Úsvit přímé demokracie party . Bárta failed to enter the House of Representatives, VV was dissolved in 2015.
