Jean Chabbert

Jean-Berchmans-Marcel-Yves-Marie-Bernard Chabbert OFM (born December 31, 1920 in Castres , Tarn , France , † September 20, 2016 ) was a French religious and Roman Catholic bishop of Perpignan-Elne .

Life

Chabbert joined the Congregation of the Franciscan at and received on 29 June 1947, the priestly ordination .

Pope Paul VI appointed him on April 12, 1967 titular Archbishop of Quaestoriana and Coadjutor Archbishop of Rabat .

The Archbishop of Toulouse , Louis-Jean Cardinal Guyot , ordained him episcopal on July 7th of the same year ; Co - consecrators were Pierre-Marie-Joseph Puech , Bishop of Carcassonne , and Barthélemy-Pierre-Joseph-Marie-Henri Hanrion OFM, Bishop of Dapaong . With the death of Louis-François-Bienaimé-Amedée Lefèbvres SDB on January 15, 1968, he succeeded him as Archbishop of Rabat .

Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Perpignan-Elne on July 17, 1982 while retaining the personal title of Archbishop.

On January 16, 1996, John Paul II accepted his resignation because of his age.
