André Louis Fort (born September 20, 1935 in Chalon-sur-Saône , Saône-et-Loire Department ) is Bishop Emeritus of Orléans .

Life

André Louis Fort was ordained a priest on April 8, 1962 and was incardinated in the clergy of the Autun diocese . From 1981 to 1984 he was superior of the Paray-le-Monial seminary .

Pope John Paul II appointed him coadjutor bishop of Perpignan-Elne on February 18, 1995 . The Bishop of Perpignan-Elne , Archbishop Jean Chabbert OFM , donated him episcopal ordination on July 9th of the same year ; Co - consecrators were Sabin-Marie Saint-Gaudens , Bishop of Agen , and Pierre Eyt , Archbishop of Bordeaux .

After Jean Chabbert's OFM retired , he followed on January 16, 1996 as Bishop of Perpignan-Elne. He was named Bishop of Orléans on November 28, 2002, and on January 5, 2003, he was appointed to the office. On July 27, 2010, Pope Benedict XVI. his resignation request submitted for reasons of age.

On November 22, 2018, Fort was sentenced to eight months in prison by the Orléans Criminal Court for covering up abuse . Fort had not reported the sexual abuse committed by his diocesan priest Pierre de Castelet against several minors . The priest received a three-year prison sentence, two of which were unsuspected.
