Radek John
Radek John (born December 6, 1954 in Prague ) is a Czech publicist , writer , screenwriter and politician . From July 2010 to April 21, 2011, he was Minister of the Interior of the Czech Republic in the Nečas government , then Deputy Prime Minister with responsibility for combating corruption until May 11, 2011.
Life
His father is the immunologist Ctirad John , his mother the editor Božena Johnová . In 1979 he passed the exam at FAMU . From 1980 to 1993 John worked as an editor for the magazine Junge Welt (Mladý svět). He became known through the novel Memento , which deals with the problems of drug addicts and which has been translated into ten languages. He also wrote travel reports.
In the 1980s he also worked as a screenwriter for the Barrandov film studio and Czech television . During this time he wrote the scripts for a number of well-known films. In 1994 he switched to the new television channel TV Nova , where he initially worked as a reporter and later as editor of the program With my own eyes (Na vlastní oči). From 1997 to 2003 he was the editor-in-chief responsible for journalism. In 1995 he won the Týtý competition and became the most famous face on television. He left TV Nova in 2009.
John is married to the actress Zlata Adamovská and has two children.
Political activities
In June 2009 John was elected chairman of the Věci veřejné party , which had only appeared at the local level . For them, he stood in the elections to the Czech Parliament in June 2010 as the top candidate in Prague and was elected to parliament. In the Nečas government, John was Deputy Prime Minister and Home Secretary since July 13, 2010. In connection with the known amalgamation of the VV with a security agency, John had to hand over the interior department to the non-party Jan Kubice on April 21, 2011 and has since been Deputy Prime Minister responsible for combating corruption. On May 11, 2011, John already announced his resignation from this post on the grounds of a lack of support in his task.
